2021 Hyundai Santa Fe First Look | Change Is More Than Skin Deep

Hyundai dropped more details on the heavily refreshed 2021 Santa Fe. In addition to a new look completely with toothy headlights, the midsize crossover gets a new powertrain lineup. The base engine is now the same 191-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder found in the Sonata and is paired to an eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission. If that’s not powerful enough for you, higher trims get a 277-hp 2.5-liter turbo-four paired to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic.

For the first time, Hyundai will offer the Santa Fe with hybrid powertrains. Available in SEL and Limited trims, the Santa Fe Hybrid uses a 1.6-liter turbo-four coupled to an electric motor, a lithium-ion battery, and a six-speed automatic. The total system output is estimated to be 226 hp. A plug-in hybrid version is also coming, sporting a larger battery and a more powerful electric motor, upping power to 261 hp. Both hybrid variants of the Santa Fe will get AWD standard across the board.

In addition to new powertrains, the Santa Fe will be the second model to get a Calligraphy variant. This trim slots above the Limited and gets a host of cosmetic upgrades to lux up the crossover. However, it will likely be only available with the 2.5-liter turbo-four.
