2024 Hyundai IONIQ 6 Global Reveal

Hyundai IONIQ 6 Global Reveal: At the Busan Motor Show, Hyundai has finally spilled most of the beans on the all-new 2024 IONIQ 6 sedan. The second of three models that will make up the IONIQ family of electric vehicles, it rides on the same ‘e-GMP’ platform with an 800v architecture and super fast charging capabilities as the IONIQ 5. Inspired by the Prophecy concept, the 6 has a slippery silhouette that allows it to generate a coefficient of drag as low as 0.21. That makes it one of the most aerodynamic production EVs ever made. Range will certainly benefit from this, with Hyundai claiming 380 miles maximum. That number is likely only possible with the smaller 18-inch wheels and the rear-wheel drive single-motor spec. Nevertheless, it is still a seriously impressive number. The IONIQ 6 will be powered by the same two batteries (53 or 77.4 kWh) and motor setups as the 5 and Kia EV6. Dual-motor models will make the same 320 horsepower as those do, as well as their around-five second 0-60 mph performance.

If you do go for the smaller battery with rear-wheel drive, Hyundai claims you’ll be at the helm of one of the most efficient EVs available today at 4.44 miles/kWh on average. The 6 will also be jam-packed with standard and optional active safety features such as their Highway Drive Assist II system and Smart Cruise Control. Inside, the dual-screen setup from the 5 is present and accounted for. However, in this application it receives black bezels instead of white ones around the screens. That was a major design flaw in the IONIQ 5 that I am glad they’ve remedied here. Other enhancements over the 5 include new 64-color ambient lighting schemes, a center console designed to be a flat work space, and ‘Speed Sync Lighting’ for acceleration-based brightness control of said lights. If you like neon lights and night clubs with lounge spaces, the 6’s spacious rear seat will be your new favorite place in town. Lastly, Hyundai has given it what they call ‘EV Performance Tune-up’, which allows drivers to “freely adjust steering effort, motor power, accelerator pedal sensitivity and driveline mode. Drivers can create a variety of different combinations with just a few button clicks to meet their individual needs.”

Production of the IONIQ 6 begins in the third quarter of 2022 and will go on sale here in the U.S. early next year. The North American-specific debut will take place at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, so stay tuned! More on the Hyundai IONIQ 6 global reveal here.
