2024 Kia EV9 Global Specs Revealed

Kia has dropped new details on the upcoming EV9 3-row electric family hauler, and they are pretty interesting. As expected, the base model will be powered by a 201-horsepower motor which will yield some less-than-exciting 0-60 times. There will also be a big-battery model that could approach 300 miles of driving range on the EPA cycle (it’s WLTP targeted for around 360-ish). Want to go faster? There will be a dual-motor version that will scoot to 60 in around 5.2 seconds.

The most interesting thing is that Kia also revealed a few of the car’s dimensions. The EV9 might look deceptively small in photos, but it is actually as long, as wide and as tall as a Kia Telluride, and almost exactly the same size as Volvo’s EX90. The proportions are certainly different than Telluride, however – especially with the boxy, but stubby, front end. There will be a frunk, but likely a fairly small one. On the other hand, the cargo area appears to be bigger than Telluride, so expect over 20 cubic feet back there. It’ll come as a 6 or 7 seat vehicle with a 2- or 3-person second row and a 2-seat third row in all trims. The second row captain’s chairs can swivel 180 degrees to create a lounge setup.

Also on offer (in select markets) will be a “Level 3 self-driving system”. Most likely in the USA this will be a Level 2+ system like GM Super Cruise, but in some areas around the world they will let drivers watch movies and other content on the central display while driving. Enabling that hands-free driving is not one, but two front-facing LIDAR units integrated into the front bumper. Along with 13 other sensors, it will have the most advanced driving tech in the Hyundai/Kia conglomerate.

All indications point to the EV9 being on sale in 2023, which would beat Volvo’s three-row EX90 to market. Pricing is anyone’s guess, but it will likely qualify for the full federal tax credit because Kia plans on building the EV9 in the USA (for American markets only). Look for the North American reveal to take place at the 2023 New York International Auto Show in April.
