Mazda confirms next MX-5 Miata.

Numerous heads of Mazda’s European division have recently divulged information in interviews shedding light on the brand’s future. While significant and relevant, there is always a reluctance to assume these reports also apply to the North American market. For example, Joachim Kunz, head of product development and engineering at Mazda Europe, revealed some details about the next MX-5 Miata to Autocar. “It’s our brand icon and it is always treated very specially. At the moment, it looks like we will have this car forever, with this size and concept and combustion engine. Of course, someday, we will have to electrify it, but we want to keep this pure concept”. While there is nothing in the rumor mill suggesting the Miata isn’t returning in North America, it is always best practice to not assume what happens in Europe happens here. More on this here.

The Ford Maverick has been a smash hit for the brand so far. Production delays, backorders and waitlists have pushed delivery times well into 2023. With the hype, many people have started expressing interest in an ST variant. That’s exactly what has reportedly been spied today for the first time. Unique dual exhaust outlets, a lowered suspension and potentially sporty wheels with alterations to the wheel arches help give it away. What we don’t know yet for sure is what would power a higher-performing Maverick. Since this is on the same platform as the Escape, the 2.3L turbo 4-cylinder could likely fit under the hood since the Lincoln Corsair offers it. More pics and details here.

Tesla shows off more production-ready Cybertruck in Texas.

Tesla Gigafactory Austin Event, April 2022, Cybertruck

Elon Musk just hosted “Cyber Rodeo” at Tesla’s new gigafactory in Auston, Texas. There, he divulged new information regarding the size of the Gigafactory and what we can expect to come out of it. That includes the Cybertruck, which he rolled out on stage in its latest development stage. This time, no smashing the windows. Closer inspection by those present revealed the clunkiness of this particular unit’s construction. There are also no door handles, as Musk claims the truck knows its owner is present and can open the door for them. More on Cybertruck and everything else covered at the event over here.

Jeep Wagoneer outselling its Grander sibling by a landslide.

2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, black

With a $30,000 price gap between the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, it would be safe to assume the take rate between the two would be immensely skewed. Thanks to Q1 sales reports from Stellantis, this can now be confirmed as true. 7,055 Wagoneers were sold in the first quarter of 2022, while only 3,169 Grand Wagoneers left dealer lots. I am absolutely not surprised by this, haven driven a Grand Wagoneer myself for a week. There are a few too many options shared between the models, making it much more sensible to just option up a Wagoneer as close to a Grand Wagoneer as possible and save the cash. The interactive passenger display, 22″ wheels, tri-pane moonroof, and more luxurious options can be had on a Wagoneer. More on this here.
