Sony Honda Mobility Reveals ‘Afeela’ Concept at CES 2023

Back in the beginning of 2022, it was officially announced that Sony and Honda would be joining forces to form a new mobility company. Now we know the name of this joint venture company – Afeela. Sony Honda Mobility took the CES 2023 this week to unveil the name and the first prototype vehicle that we can expect to see in production by 2026. Adopting styling cues from existing and upcoming Honda electric vehicles (the e and Prologue), as well as Sony’s Vision-S 01 prototype from 2020, this sedan looks to be a futuristic, yet simple look at the future of this fledgling brand. Afeela is just the name of the brand, this particular model has not been given a model name of its own just yet. Nevertheless, let’s take a closer look.

The sedan measures in at 192.7 inches long with a 118.1-inch wheelbase. It will have all-wheel drive standard, so expect a dual-motor setup. Up front you’ll find what they call a Media Bar, a digital display that spans the width of the front bumper between the headlights. It will actually show information and interact with other drivers and pedestrians with information like charge state, weather, active safety functions, and advertisements for Sony Pictures films. The body has smooth curves, hidden door handles, slim digital side mirror cameras, aero wheels, and a slippery fastback design that obviously prioritizes aerodynamics. There are three pillars to this brand – Augmentation, Affinity and Autonomy – the latter which can be seen on the roof with the camera system bump.

Inside, there is a massive pillar-to-pillar display just above the yoke-style steering wheel. There are screens in the back attached to the front seats as well, but the front screen is where the party is happening. The system will be powered by Qualcomm’s SnapDragon Digital Chassis as well as Epic Games’ Unreal Engine. Together, this will allow this infotainment system to implement augmented reality and hyper-realistic graphics for a truly immersive experience. It should be really impressive, considering these tech companies have a bit of experience in these areas.

Pre-orders will begin in 2025, with deliveries beginning as early as 2026 here in North America. That’s a lot of time for things to change for the production model, so sit tight. More on the Afeela here.
