Toyota bZ3 Sedan Uncovered in China

Toyota bZ3 Sedan Uncovered in China: Today, photos have surfaced of the production version of Toyota’s first all-electric sedan, now known to be the bZ3. Looking strikingly similar to the bZ SDN concept shown late last year at Toyota’s electric vehicle presentation, this bodes well for those anticipating the production designs of the rest of the vehicles shown at that buffet. They should all end up looking very close to their prototypes. In the case of the bZ3, we have our first look at the Chinese spec via these images that leaked via government filings. A white car with a two-tone paint job appears to be an upper trim, while a black car with smaller wheels appears to be a base trim. Both have a standard sized moonroof and LED lighting all around. The nose has a familial resemblance to the bZ4X with its hammerhead shark inspiration.

What else do we know about the bZ3? Well, considering it uses the number 3, you would think it had smaller footprint than the bZ4X crossover. According to the information released, however, it is actually longer in overall length (186.2″ vs 184.7″) and has a longer wheelbase (113.4″ vs 112.6″). The other surprise twist is the fact that, under the skin, this sedan is almost 100% produced from BYD parts. For example, BYD’s Fudi/Fudi Power supplies the electric motors and battery. We don’t know the specs on those batteries or motors, but if Toyota doesn’t have any alternative suppliers or plan on building any of these components in the U.S., the likelihood that it ever gets sold here may be slim. We’ll just have to see what happens!
